10 Colourful Kitchens to Inspire Your Next Project

10 Colourful Kitchens to Inspire Your Next Project

From subtle shades to bold hues, these kitchens are anything but ordinary.

From subtle shades to bold hues, these kitchens are anything but ordinary.

Kitchens are often the heart of the home, so why not make it a space of joy? Splashes of colour, whether they’re maximalist or minimalist, vintage-inspired or modern, or take cues from an English country garden or Mediterranean seaside cottage, can add personality and playfulness to your kitchen design.

You can dial up (or down) bold kitchen interiors as much as you like – and that’s the beauty of embracing a little, or a lot, of colour. Use two-tone kitchen cabinets or go for a colour block style, add a couple of shades to checkerboard flooring or patterned tile splashbacks, and opt for colour drenching or an accent in just one spot.

For colourful kitchen inspiration, read on to discover how designers are creating spaces that make an impact.

Pink kitchen cabinets

Millennial pink is going nowhere. The soft, pale shade of pink is the perfect alternative to a neutral kitchen – classic and fresh, but with a wink and a nod to a joyful personality.

Design by Holly Oak House | Photography by Joey Kendal Brown | Features our Cotswold Drawer Cup Pull, Cotswold Ball Cabinet Knob, Cotswold Gallery Shelf Rail and Handsworth Shelf Bracket, all in our aged brass (BEL) finish and our Regency Diamond Grille in our satin brass unlacquered (SBUL) finish.

In this kitchen designed by Holly Oak House, timeless design choices create a classic feel, with the pale pink kitchen cabinets paired with marble shelving, worktops and splashback in marble. Touches of brass add to this timeless feel, found in small yet statement kitchen lighting and our Cotswold Drawer Cup Pull, Cotswold Ball Cabinet Knob, Cotswold Gallery Shelf Rail and Handsworth Shelf Bracket, all in our aged brass (BEL) finish. And for a little jewellery and a bit more of that personality? Our Regency Diamond Grille in our satin brass unlacquered (SBUL) finish.

Design by Sean Symington | Photography by Chris Wakefield | Features our Cotswold Drop Handle and Cotswold Cupboard Latch, both in our aged brass (BEL) finish.

Sean Symington took a similar approach for his personal residence: a Victorian townhouse in Bath. Pale pink cabinetry sits alongside marble, while hanging copper pans and a checkerboard floor give this colourful townhouse kitchen an English country feel. Additional jolts of colour and texture – green plates on the open shelving, and rattan pendant lighting with smooth waves – keep this kitchen modern, rather than traditional. As with the Holly Oak House project above, brass is the perfect accompaniment to the soft pink kitchen cabinets, found in our Cotswold Drop Handle and Cotswold Cupboard Latch, both in our aged brass (BEL) finish.

Vibrant kitchen design

Project by Guild Anderson | Features our Belgrave T-bar Handle and Belgrave Cabinet Handle and our Handsworth Flush Mounted Shelf Bracket, all in our aged brass (BEL) finish.

Ocean blue and ochre? It may not be the most obvious colour pairing, especially in a Chelsea townhouse, but as this vibrant kitchen design shows, sometimes it pays to be a little daring. The hand painted cabinets were a bespoke design by Guild Anderson, who mirrored the brass on the statement range cooker with our Belgrave T-bar Handle and Belgrave Cabinet Handle and our Handsworth Flush Mounted Shelf Bracket, all in our aged brass (BEL) finish.

The quartzite used for the kitchen worktops and splashback add more of a statement while seamlessly tying in with the ochre and blue colour palette. To keep the whole look grounded rather than overbearing? Clean white walls and dark parquet flooring. This is a maximalist kitchen at its finest.

Scandinavian colourful kitchen

Project by Himlekok | Photography by Osman Tahir | Features our Queslett Cup Pull and Queslett Cabinet Knob with Rectangular Backplate, both in our aged brass (BEL) finish.

How do you renovate an early 20th-century villa on the shores of the Stockholm Archipelago to work for a 21st-century family? You take a leaf out of Villa Lumo’s book. In this colourful Scandinavian kitchen, tones are bold enough to make a statement, yet subtle enough to be sympathetic to the original build. The blue kitchen cabinets nod to the waterfront location, while the brass-trimmed oven and extractor hood appear as though they could have stood there for years. This timeless touch of brass is echoed in the cabinet hardware, with our Quelsett Cup Pull and Queslett Cabinet Knob with Rectangular Backplate in our aged brass (BEL) finish.

Project by House Nine Design | Photography by Joey Kendal Brown | Features our Cotswold Bun Cabinet Knob, Cotswold Gallery Shelf Rail, Chamberlain Plain Twin Plug Socket and Aberdovey Cabinet Knob, all in our fine English antique (FEA) finish.

For Pollyanna Wilkinson’s Surrey home, the acclaimed landscape garden designer wanted to create a kitchen that was warm, colourful, and practical. With a particular love for green (and the outdoors, of course), it was the nature-inspired hue that formed the basis of Polly’s English country colourful kitchen, brought to life by House Nine Design. Green kitchen cabinets take centre stage, while neutral walls, a tiled splashback and our Cotswold Bun Cabinet Knobs in our fine English antique (FEA) finish, come together for a timeless yet contemporary look.

Patterned tile kitchen

Design by IW Studio | Photography by Margaret Austin | Features our Bakes Cabinet Knob and our Bakes Cabinet Handle, both in our aged brass (BEL) finish.

Sometimes it’s just a few touches of colour that can make a big impact. In the renovation of this Spanish-Colonial home in San Francisco, IW Studio blended original features with a contemporary colour palette, to create a striking colourful kitchen full of charm. Fresh blue kitchen cabinets fill the length of one side of the kitchen, while neutral walls and a kitchen island keep the space calm and grounded. These colours are reflected in the patterned tile kitchen splashback, while brass accents in the pendant lighting and our Bakes Cabinet Knob and our Bakes Cabinet Handle in our aged brass (BEL) finish tie all colours and textures together.

Open shelving colourful kitchen

Design by McClark Joinery | Photography by Chris Snook | Features our Aberdovey Shell Cup Pull and Cotswold Bun Cabinet Knob, both in our satin brass satin lacquered (SBSL) finish.

The obvious choice when designing a colourful kitchen is to wash the walls and kitchen cabinets in one (or two, or three) vibrant shade. This space does just that, opting for pink kitchen cabinets adorned with our Aberdovey Shell Cup Pull and Cotswold Bun Cabinet Knob, both in our satin brass satin lacquered (SBSL) finish, with a matching wall colour to create an impact.

But there are other ways to play with different hues, too – and here, it’s done by using open shelving to create an even more colourful kitchen. The spines of books line the shelves in all their multi-coloured glory, as do small, colourful plant pots. The opportunity to inject more colour into a space is everywhere.

Pink and green kitchens

Who says you can’t have a bit of fun with an historic home? In these spaces, colour is used to transform traditional features, without taking away from their original character. The kitchen colours of choice? Pink and green.

Design by Maddux Creative | Features our Barwick Plain Cabinet Pull Handle, Barwick Plain Cabinet Knob and Barwick Plain D Pull Handle, all in our aged brass (BEL) finish.

In this classic Arts and Crafts home in London, designers Scott Maddux and Jo leGleud were tasked with bringing lots of personality – and colour – into a traditionally dark space. It was a challenge they gladly accepted, melding the classic features of the house with contemporary flair.

In the kitchen, this was seen with custom curved oak cabinetry, graphic marble flooring and a good splash of green on the floor, walls and worktops, and pink kitchen cabinets and bar stools. And on the cabinets? Our Barwick Plain Cabinet Pull Handle and Barwick Plain D Pull Handle in aged brass (BEL) finish, to effortlessly complement that oak, green and pink palette.

Project by Guild Anderson | Photography by Emma Lewis | Features our Bakes Appliance Pull, Cotswold Ball Cabinet Knob, Cotswold Cup Pull, and Cotswold Drop Handle, all in our aged brass (BEL) finish.

On the banks of Scotland’s River Tweed, this pink and green kitchen marries plenty of tradition with a contemporary colour palette. The mint green kitchen cabinets sit against pale, salmon pink walls (a nod to the location), with traditional plate racks, shaker-style cabinetry and our Bakes Appliance Pull and Ball Cabinet Knob and Cup Pull from our Cotswold collection, all in our aged brass (BEL) finish, providing that historic character.

For an extra traditional touch, Guild Anderson created a bespoke French oak cook’s table as the kitchen island with hand-turned legs, traditional peg details, and our Cotswold Drop Handle in our aged brass (BEL) finish.

Warm earthy colourful kitchens

Design by Ashley Montgomery | Photography by Lauren Miller | Features our Bakes Cabinet Handle and Bakes Appliance Pull, and our Cotswold Ball Cabinet Knob, all in our polished brass unlacquered (PBUL) finish.

Colourful kitchens don’t need to be bright or maximalist to make an impact. Subtle earthy tones can be just as effective too. In this Ontario, Canada home, interior designer Ashley Montgomery used a soft, warm pink on kitchen cabinets and to cleverly hide the extractor hood. A neutral wood-panelled kitchen island, classic dark natural stone worktops, rich textiles, and our Bakes Cabinet Handle and Bakes Appliance Pull, and our Cotswold Ball Cabinet Knob, all in our polished brass unlacquered (PBUL) finish, add to this sense of warmth and cosiness.
