The next instalment in our Renovations We Love series is located in rural Buckinghamshire and belongs to interior designer Jo Milton. A charming country cottage home to her family of six, the property marries timeless luxe with a warm aesthetic and today we’re showcasing her living room renovation.
With a traditional brick fireplace as the focal point in her living room, Jo wanted to enhance this feature and streamline the amount of furniture. With a challenging shaped space, bespoke built-in units create an elegant frame to surround the hearth and balance countryside details with a more contemporary feel.
Jo says, ‘My husband and I discussed for years the right layout to suit our family in the living room and we came up with the idea of replacing our old mis-matched furniture with one large bespoke unit to sit either side of our fireplace which we sketched on a piece of paper and gave to our carpenter.’
Deciding on warm neutrals for the colour palette, Jo’s living room creates an inviting space to be enjoyed by the family. With four children, it was important for Jo to design her home to balance her love of refined interiors whilst keeping a functional feel.
The sophisticated unit instantly draws the eye and makes showcasing the ornaments in her styled shelves effortless, whilst ensuring the room feels spacious with room for the kids to play.
Jo notes, ‘When I designed the unit I wanted a traditional look with a luxurious feel. I knew the design was important but equally the finishes were just as important too.’ Opting for our Jefferson pull handles to complement the straight edges of the unit, Jo chose an antique brass finish to enrich the warm oak colours throughout the rest of the space.
The sleek linear design of our Jefferson pulls sit raised on parallel platforms, beautifully suiting the lines of Jo’s interior cabinetry. Jo says, ‘I knew that the antique brass finish would enrich the warm oak colours throughout the rest of the space and the unit is painted in a warm tone too.’
